Rippling built an employee- and team-level spend console after its own AI costs rose by millions of dollars, while a KPMG figure says only 7% of executives can currently demonstrate returns from AI spending. Independent operators are also comparing AI and human costs inside specific healthcare workflows. Together these observations point to an emerging control category for attributing AI cost to people, tasks and completed outcomes rather than tracking seats or tokens alone.
